But the Changelings need love to fuel their energy which King Sombra has none, like Princess Celestia said his heart is as black as night and having the power of shadows, traps (not talking about stairs), dark magic, fear and curses, I think he can easily defeat Chrysalis and her Changelings and you should not pay attention to the lack of screen time he had and pay attention to what he actually did, and I'm not talking about the stairs, that was just a part of his old castle that Twilight found, he actually did almost take over the Crystal Empire in a short amount of time (near the middle to end of the 2nd episode) than how long Chrysalis took to almost take over Canterlot (the entire 2nd episode)
The only people who think Chrysalis would win this one are people who don't like Sombra. There is absolutely no reason he wouldn't win this. Assuming he can turn to shadow like in the episode, Chrysalis' army would not be able to land a single hit. And considering Shining Armor's performance against Sombra, all he would need is engulfing Queen Chrysalis once, ONCE, and he could lock all her powers completely. Then Sombra would drown the whole area in darkness and tear the Changelings apart with his crystals.
Sombra has black magic, smoke and crystalline powers that can not only make him intangible but also increases his range of attack and defense. Plus, if we're assuming Chrysalis and her army arrived in the Crystal Empire during Sombra's rule, there's absolutely no love for them to feed on, which means Chrysalis won't be powered up like she was with Celestia. Sombra can brush aside the non-magic using soldiers, and then content with Chrysalis one-on-one when he uses his crystals to, oh I dunno, entrap him and the queen in a closed off space. Chrysalis is fucked because she isn't powered up, and from what we can tell, she's weaker than Celestia without love to power her up.
Chrysalis is doomed. Sombra's elemental abilities and powerful magics trump poor Chrissy's straightforward magic blasts. Heck, he can even render her magic useless. I'd imagine that his hatred-fueled magic would have quite the negative effect on a creature that needs to feed on love. Celestia can solo Chrysalis, Sombra had to be defeated by both royal sisters. The only reason Chrissy beat Celestia is because Shining Armor's love super-charged her.
As far as the wallpaper goes, its an interesting one. Not too much detail on it, but it has quite the atmosphere. Well done.
I did not forget, and the Mane 6 did not defeat Sombra, the Crystal Ponies pouring their energy into the Crystal Heart did. The Mane 6 did put the Royal Army to shame, though, when they knocked out an entire battalion of changeling soldiers.
Against an intangible foe, numbers are meaningless. Sombra could not be touched until he re-formed himself near the end of the episode. It is unknown if he is able to switch between forms at will, but if he could, an army would mean nothing. Judging by his raw power, and the fact that his powers are derived from hatred, King Sombra seems to have an extreme advantage over the love-consuming changelings.
You're right, this whole villains vs. villains thing is silly. I just wanted to stick up for King Sombra because everyone else was writing him off. Indeed, if the villains combined their powers, their victory would be nigh effortless.
Please do not take my opening part to be condescending or as an attack; it was not intended as such. I was only trying to put it in the clearest of terms. Know that I respect you and that it is as such that I offer you a brohoof: /) (pardon the simplicity, I'm not sure how to make those fancy icons work)
Discord makes Sombra wear a sombrero and dance with maracas, turns Chrysalis into swiss cheese and eats her, and summons a giant cannon under Nightmare Moon that shoots her back to the moon. While drinking a chocolate milk of glass.
There can be no fight against Discord. Only a curbstomp. A hilarious, random curbstomp.
